For 48 years Glenda Eichner has practised pattern making and couture. She started, at 15, as a machinist for Esther Fashion (now Bauhaus, Adelaide). Thereafter, her sights were set on London where she worked for Jean Muir Couture and Marks & Spencer manufacturing.
Glenda’s talent took her to South Africa, the Greek Isles and Sydney for couture and manufacturing labels too long to list here. Still, a little name-dropping is due…Victoria Albert, Christopher Essex, House of Demonzi, Alexander Mac, Mr K, Brave (Wayne Cooper).
If asked, a career highlight is the summers Glenda spent in the Greek Isles as official couturier to European and English gentry.
The love of Glenda’s life brought her home to South Australia where the couple are famous for early morning, sunshine or hail, iceberg swims in bespoke his and hers matching bathers; all Glenda’s creations.
Today, Adelaide’s established and emerging labels Betrothed Bridal, Vlad & Kloe, Sally Phillips, Don't do Pretty, Lucy Giles, Ottillie & Co. and Surface Art are current beneficiaries of Glenda’s artistry. She also creates for her loyal couturier clients.
